Thanks for the ideas! I have a grill from an old charcoal bbq grill that I store in a trash bag. Lay that over the grill part of a fire ring like that, or propped up however you can get it over your fire and cook the steak right on the fire. Don't sacrifice that smoke flavor to a pan! My family and I have been camping for many years, and this year I finally decided to give a coleman stove a try. Love the convenience, especially for breakfast (not having to build a fire) but until now we've cooked EVERYTHING on the fire. A good cast iron dutch oven is an important tool. Once a year we do a week long trip and I dedicate a whole day to making campfire green chili. If it's a dish that will benefit from smoke, don't pass up on that flavor!

Hammocks are the way to go. It's a game changer.

From my personal experience, I bring at least several extra large size garbage bags with me, those are really handy. One time I had to leave the tent in the middle of the night because our campground was flooded. I threw all my clothes and electronics into the garbage bag and carry them to my car, thanks to that, nothing got wet and I was able to dry myself very quickly once I got into the car. Garbage bags are really good too because you can use them as emergency tarps, it's not thick, but at least it can keep things dry and free of dirt, you can also cut it to make it larger, or cut the bottom, and roll it up to use it like a plastic hoop.

I LOVE your recipes. I live in a very dry climate and often times there is a fire restriction so planning to cook over an open fire doesn’t make sense for us. But I am wondering about coals in the fire pit so I’m going to look into that. Happy camping!

For the quac, I HIGHLY recommend true lime which is just crystallized lime. Super easy to take camping. It comes in little packets too.
